Santa Marta... The magic of having everything

Santa Marta, the oldest city in Colombia, is set between the majesty of a mountain crowned with snowy peaks and the crystalline waters of the Caribbean Sea. Founded in 1525 by Rodrigo de Bastidas, Santa Marta proudly shows the traces of its glorious past, represented by ancient buildings and military structures that date from the colonial period, walking along the Historical Center.

Magical, ancestral and modern, it combines all of the elements that make it the favorite destination of thousands of tourists who arrive seeking relaxation and peace. In areas like the well-known El Rodadero Beach, visitors find varied options for enjoying an unforgettable vacation. Magnificent hotels, restaurants and discotheques are at the service of those who seek entertainment and comfort. Along the beaches of Bello Horizonte and Pozos Colorados are luxurious hotels that invite one to relax.

The environment is one of the principal attractions of Santa Marta. Protected by the Sierra Nevada, it possesses an extraordinary diversity of landscapes, and of flora and fauna, that make it a mandatory place to visit for nature lovers. Ideal for encounters with ecological adventure is the Tayrona National Park, a nature preserve composed of a land area and an undersea coastal area, a repository of the plant and animal species belonging to its ecosystem.

Three thousand hectares of coast include beaches like Neguanje, Bahía Concha, Cinto and Arrecifes, true paradises, almost virgin, used for skin-diving and snorkeling, among other marine activities. Within the park is Pueblito, an archeological site of great importance whose inhabitants are direct descendants of the ancient Tayrona indians, the pre-Hispanic inhabitants of the area. Up above, in the Sierra, the majesty of Ciudad Perdida impresses those who have the luck to visit it. Its stone structures are the living manifestation of the high level of cultural development achieved by its builders.

All of these reasons, added to the hospitable character of its people, make Santa Marta the ideal place for vacationing and enjoying the variety of activities and places it offers.
